I have always been interested in the figurative / nonfigurative aspects of art. My work ranges from almost photographic with great attention to detail to nonfigurative where visual representation plays a very small part. I am also interested in the picture plane. In some works, perspective and the illusion of distance play an important role; in others I have gone to some lengths to preserve the two dimensional nature of the picture plane by reducing the subject matter to a series of patterns and shapes. I usually try to capture the feeling of a place and at the same time present a visual interpretation. Primarily I am concerned with the landscape but often use other subject matter.
