Land & sea – George Matoulas / Michael Ingleton

August 16 – Sept 19

This exhibition came about due to my long association with George Matoulas when I was working at the State Library of Victoria, initially as a bookbinder in the Conservation Dept. George joined the SLV as a bookbinder but is now the Preservation Supervisor in the Collection Management Division. George asked to share the show with his friend Michael Ingleton.

George is a printmaker, painter, bookbinder and publisher but also seems to be involved in all sorts of art projects. His publishing involves George setting the type and printing the text, either making all the prints or inviting one his printmaking friends and then binding the work in cloth or leather. The editions are limited to fifteen and the imprint is Lexicon House. We will have several of George’s publications available during the exhibition.

George’s works in this exhibition are aquatint and chin colle prints and bronze sculptural pieces.

Michael Ingleton is a printmaker, artist and book artist with extensive experience collaborating with other artists including time working in the John Perceval studio. Michael spent many years in Paris, Italy and Holland as well as a stint as artist in residence at Oenpilli (Gunyabalunya) in the Northern Territory teaching linocut printmaking. Michael’s works in this exhibition are charcoal drawings and pastel works.
