Gecko Studio Gallery News

Well, we are back! After a brief hiatus throughout the cooler months, and from our busiest summer season we have ever had, reaching the hundredth exhibition, allowing that show to run for a second month and finally hanging the extended stock show titled “The Gathering”: we were exhausted. We had a short holiday in Bali which stopped us from completely unravelling and we have just returned from three weeks in a campervan around the north island of New Zealand. So now we are refreshed and eager to get back into the swing of things with some great shows coming up.
We are pushing ahead with the plan to have six one month exhibitions over the warmer period and an extended stockroom show during the cooler months. We will assess how everything has gone after this coming summer and then after the next winter.

The gallery was run in our absence by Annie Stark, Kathie McLaren and Susan Purdy with our framer, Adrian Johnson keeping everything running in the framing studio. Thank you Annie, Kathie, Susan and Adrian.

Susan Purdy has joined us in the gallery to work part time. She will be working Mondays and Fridays. Susan will be learning to deal with framing work as it comes in, the fine details of the art materials and aspects of our holiday accommodation, the ArtHouse. Susan is a practising artist (see and has been in a number of group exhibitions at Gecko. Do a websearch on her and see her art and a little about her.

Anyone who has visited Gecko Studio Gallery will have noticed the “little houses” hanging in our window, the “secret messages” in a bowl on the counter and shelves of glass rings and other amazing glass objects in one of the cabinets. On Saturday December the 12th Sarah will set up in the gallery (or out on the footpath depending on the weather) with her gear and a typewriter (remember typewriters?). You will then be able to type your own message and Sarah will seal it in a glass tube the same as her “secret messages”. The cost for the secret messages will be the usual price of $9 and Sarah will be at Gecko all day (10am to 5pm). This could be the chance for you to create a unique and personalised gift. Thank you Sarah!
More info closer to the time. Contact us if you have any questions about this event.

We have been closing at 4pm during much of winter but will revert to our usual 5pm from November 1.

Holiday opening hours / days – Gecko Studio Gallery will be open 10am to 5pm, 7 days a week from Monday 21 December until Monday February 1. We will then revert to our usual arrangement of closing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Framing quotes/ consultations – a reminder that it is wise where possible to make a time with Kerry for framing consultations and quotes. Kerry can be contacted on 0423 721 593 or at the Gallery (5683 2481). Kerry is not always at the gallery or we may have an event underway so it helps if you can book a time with Kerry. Susan Purdy can also help you with your framing requirements on Mondays and Fridays.

The Gecko Studio Gallery calendar will be out in mid-November. The calendar will feature artworks from a selection of artists who exhibited with us during 2015 and will retail at $30. Those of you familiar with our Gecko calendars are invited to place an order for the calendar. For those of you unfamiliar with our calendar?….live life dangerously and order a calendar anyway!

Kerry will also put out an A4 size calendar at $20 titled “The Unfamous Portraits” calendar. Sure to be curious, interesting and striking. Out mid-November as well. OK, maybe late November. Such a busy time of year!

We are working on arranging an etching workshop and another iPhoneography workshop in the near future. If you want early notification of our workshops go to our website at www.geckostudiogallery and subscribe to our workshop alerts. Easy.

Look out for special art material packs for Christmas presents. We are going through the catalogues from our art material suppliers and placing orders now. Please contact us if you want us to order any specific materials as Christmas gifts.
We will have a delivery in soon of new high quality canvas bags and accessories from Nomad Essentials: canvas laptop bags, satchels, tote bags, backpacks, messenger bags and wallets. Great as gifts and just great to use yourself. We both use Nomad bags.
